Jesus knows what lies ahead for Him and He knows why. He is going to face God’s wrath, the cup of God’s wrath. Jesus’ anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane can be grasp by understanding what was going to happen. Not only is He going to be tortured, beaten, ridiculed, and nailed to a cross, He will bear the weight of the sins of the world. Every sin that has been committed, that is being committed, and every sin that will be committed, by every human being on earth. This is known as the great exchange. Jesus exchanged His righteousness for the world’s sinfulness. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are made righteous by His selfless sacrifice.

Jesus was fully God and fully human. His human nature wanted another way to accomplish this. His God nature knew there was no other way. He succumbed to God’s will at a great cost. What is God’s will for you? What is God calling you to do? Are you resisting? Do you feel as if you are not properly trained or equipped to do what He is calling you to do? You are not alone, there are others today who feel the same way. There was Moses, Gideon, Jonah and others who tried to get God to use someone else, but He chose them. Through them He did great works. Through you He will do great works too! If you know His will, obey His will. If you are not sure, pray, ask Him to show you His good and perfect will.

Father, no greater gift could You have ever given the world than Jesus as our Savior. You have a plan for each one of us. Help us to know Your will and obey You. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In our Savior’s holy and powerful name we pray. Amen.
